Tis Autumn for sure, leaf litter abounds and afternoon
escapes to the beach present a sun startlingly close to a
northern horizon, odd really considering the warmth that
enwraps one of a dusky evening.
The first winter hints are likely but days away according
to gurus of the weatherish sort and the occasional local
hint leads the eye to golden drifts of Ash, Liquid Amber,
Nashi and the like, strewn with studied flamboyance
across the green ways, the moss covered grassy
pretensions of lawn within the shady realms, a visual
counterpoint against the newly laundered sculptures,
fresh cleaned for a little little light relief on the darker
days to come. A message written in stone but only
understood by the viewer of the moment, and that might
be you.
Saturday the 14th
Let us start with an update to last months firing a la the
Straw Kiln / Birthday Event, however as i write there is
an indication of diversion from the job at hand the air now
redolent with the aroma of frittersh flatular fantasticals
frying in the kitchened distance, dinner methinks, little
flatty things itching to be spread with home made tomato
saucilicousness, or so my nose tells me but i digress
surely........... the firing, yes the firing.......
Heather is well under way with the repair / re-creation of
elements of the statue that didn’t quite make it to full
fruition on the day, and although some may see it as a
slight mishap of firing to be sympathised with, it is in
fact BUT a new opportunity for creative interpretation. A
metaphor for life really, there is always a way and all that
:-) ...........and as it would happen an inspiration from one
of the photos in last months posting has inspired a new
development......... and no, there will be no hints from me,
after all how can one define in advance the parameters of
that which will be..... oh dear none of that heretical stuff
around here, yeah right :-)
An obvious source of inspiration for these wordy wonders
is what has been beyond the end of the camera but so far
i am somewhat befuddled as to which aspect to pick, fish
bones, mating praying mantis, dead thrushes, fantastical
fungi, or should i rabbit on about the awesome light show
down in the Bamboo Forest of a night - great festoons of
Glow Worms a gleam in the depths of dark, mind you i
haven’t photographed them yet so maybe they don’t count.
I think a continuation of the sea side theme will do for
now, down to the bones of the matter.
Autumn Sky Fire
with a dose of
Leaf Raking
There have been some additions to the Kauri Pond area
with a pile of recycled Bromelia’s that now flesh out some
of the sparser areas, and a new focus on more colour
through the addition of some largish pots, with more to
come finance allowing. We are also putting a call out to
the universe for orchids, the tougher varieties I’m
thinking and maybe autumn flowering ideally.
The Bamboo Forest is still a work in progress, especially
when deluges wipe out the stone stacks in the stream bed,
one of those metaphors for life, new opportunities and all.
Of greater note is the discovery of marvellous arrays of
glow worms, bands of starry lights along stream sides and
constellations flung across the high banks of the dell and
were my eyes tricking me.... were there glow worms in the
water?? No, just masses of tiny crayfish eyes agleam in
the stream bed, now that bodes well for the health of the
stream as a whole.
Friday the 20th
Just a quick ramble of words as I watch the moon slide up
out of the hills, very big, very bright, it will be a night of
colour if somewhat pale with fairy subtle tones to the
silver of the night.
It is really quite stunning how much growth has happened
in the Kauri Pond gardens this last couple of weeks, lots of
new growth effervescenting out of the Bromelia’s with
the richest of greens. Also of note is the 10 orchid stems
racing to flower with one in strong bud so far, the others
as yet spikes pointed to the heavens.
A visitor to the gardens commented on the ‘Spirit Stones’
(stone stacks) down in the Bamboo Forest, the name feels
right so Spirit Stones they be, there is one more to be
created as and when I find the stone that feels right,
then I will do a photo shoot for the website.
with a following sunset over Auckland, lights out for both
it seems.
