June 2018 The middle at Mahara, a time of year this writer finds rather pleasing in that there is a little less green and a lot more form, tree fingers reaching for the light, unadorned with degrees of verdancy, skeletal almost in their resting stage.  Quite definitive really. This month sees some more new stuff such as the two organic wood sculptures adorning the bamboo arch above.  These were donated by Ric Moor Jade Sculptor from Rapahoe in the South Island and we wish to acknowledge what an excellent and welcome addition they make to the start of the Bamboo Forest walk.  The arch had been waiting for that something extra. Winter has been kind thus far although the seasons are seeming mixed, we have orchids flowering on the Kauri Pond walk with many more to come.  It is a time for maintenance for the most part, in between the wet stuff of course, a refreshing of the ways and a bit more stone work here and there.  It is also that time of year when the sunrises wash the sky’s with a vibrancy that astounds.  It has been quiet with respect to the number of visitors although now the coast road is viable and much improved from before the storm we expect visitor numbers may gently rise.
