Reflections in the
Kauri Pond
Thursday the 14th
We have sad banana syndrome again...... it frosted, just
enough to maim rather than murder,
however frost cloth had been applied to the smaller
sensitives.
Last months creation in rocks and mussel buoys is
rewarding us with quite startling growth with the only
downside being excessive quantities of greens leading to
a proliferation of the salad department....... green stuff.
The new Kauri Pond hinted at in last months post is that
reflecting thing you can’t quite see in the above photo. It
actually looks better than that now, the photo was just
an attempt to catch the light of a sunny/foggy morning
in the mid-construction period. A new dimension has been
created with views beyond the immediate and towards a
fine Rewarewa, hopefully next flowering season will give
a nice wee show of flower and bird. As a bonus there are
a lot of Rewarewa seedlings in the general area waiting
to be potted on for replanting elsewhere on the
property.
The next photo taken on the same morning sort of
illustrates the “feel” of the Kauri Pond area after rain,
there gets this glow to it...........
Call me psychic but I am picking the next round of “jobs”
will be assorted prunings, trimmings and other such
winterish stuff leading to shredding, chipping and
steaming great piles of................... mulch.
The latest sculpture is nearing completion so no more
“......weren’t you doing that last time we were here 6
months ago?” type comments.
Monday the 18th
Saved by the weather!! ...... from the pruning that is and
from hordes of kids this school holiday so far. This is
good in that I have been inclined to updating my own
website giving it a much needed going over if for no other
reason than the spelling mistakes sitting there from many
years ago.
Some wonder why Treedragon? so without covering the
explicit details of why that was chosen I will copy this
snippet put in my bio
“Some preamble about the persona of Treedragon.....
I do answer to just about anything, it matters not to
me what i am called, but mostly i am called martin.
From the very earliest of ages i was never
comfortable with my given name, it is not me and not
mine, in fact on a legal basis i do not even own it and
neither do i claim to any ownership of my given name.
Starting life with someone elses definition doesn’t
seem the best way of begining to me. The “name” is
something between myself and my creator.
Another aspect is that i am not into the cult of names
as seen today nor any of the ascribed importance to
such name, it is not possible to pin down and delineate
an ever changing aspect of consciousness.
Naming and defining limits and encourages one to not
be present in the reality of the being in front of
you............ hence i do not mind being called “hey
you” be aware though that it does invite tailored
responses......... for entertainment purposes only you
understand :-) “
So there you have it, and now the photo of the day,
featuring the standard “a bit ragged around the edges”.
Tuesday 26th July
............and below is a showing the new rock wall leading the
eye to the reflection pool. I have to say it is altogether
more visceral on the spot and i note that no photos seems
to do any of it justice because , I am guessing it is a
”feeling thing”
Today I likened to Heather the similarity between
computer software development and this garden, both go
in stages of release consisting of major releases with in
between tweaks............... this is release #3 and I don’t stop
fiddling who knows where it will lead..................... The saving
grace is that all existence tends towards growth and
change and this place is forever changing.......... it’s almost
spiritual.
Thursday 28th July
It’s nearing month’s end i see and did the sculpture get
finished one might ask? Yes.
A sudden urge to get it up and mounted saw me searching
for an old post and putting in it’s place just in time for a
shower of rain to acknowledge the piece.
Pruning hasn’t happened yet, rain, rain and............. yes.
Spring is also starting to bust out, a bit early but lot’s of
cold ahead and so far no sign of conditions on the horizon
for frosts, all good, and enough rainless bits for getting
the gardens cleaned up and planning out the next trends.
The trouble with all this gardening lark is that when you
do some it immediately implies the next door bit needs
souping up as well. The stone and mussel buoy gardens are
producing very well, and yes its a continuous run of salads
as predicted, no winter fat build up around here
methinks.
